Patricia was born and raised in the Sioux City Iowa area, She has lived in Saint Louis, Lincoln Nebraska and currently resides in Omaha Nebraska. Married for 30 years to Fred C. Ress, she has three children, seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
After graduating from University of South Dakota, with a degree in Language Arts in Education, she attended graduate school at University of Iowa with her studies in journalism and American Civilization.
As an author, she has written under two pen names as Bernadette Bay O'Shaughnessy and Patty McGarrity, as well as her own name. Her writings cover a variety of genres that range from romance novels to unexplored phenomenon to non fiction topics.
